I’m honored to offer LA Tech4Good as a space for inspiring people to gather, make new connections and share experience! We filled four or five tables at the super hospitable Everson Royce Bar on Wednesday and, while I was personally unable to chat with everyone, some interesting points on the LA tech space stood out from the evening that I think are worth sharing.

— People with new skills in dev and UX are working to find their way into new positions and looking for strategies to do so. Many were coming to their very first networking event, and many self-identified as introverts. (You could have fooled me, since everyone was chattering away!) Congrats to the newbie networkers for coming out!

Making IT assessments and software implementations more widely available to nonprofits

— Folks were questioning how to make IT assessments and software implementations more widely available to nonprofits, asking who is doing this at workable prices, and wrangling with the relevancy of MVPs for nonprofits. We will continue this conversation for sure!

Super exciting practice in creating bilingual digital spaces

— We shared some cool practice in creating bilingual digital spaces, including, for example, among older Chinese residents of Chinatown through AR. We talked about how digital & English literacies (or lack of) might intersect, codeswitching (using 2 or more languages in a single conversation), whether two languages can coexist on one web page and the user experience of bilingual street signs in Hong Kong. Fun and important!

Reach out if you have experience to share as we continue these conversations!
